Dolomitenblick-Höhenweg (Dolomite Panorama Trail)

The Dolomite Panorama Trail offers landscapes and scenery which are among the most beautiful in the entire Dolomite region. And the first segment of this trail (approx. 1.5 hrs to the Ross Alm and back) can be recommended for families with children looking for a short, easy hike. It leads from the Kreuztal valley station to the high-altitude meadows on the southern slopes of the Plose to the east to the Ross Alm and then on to the huts in the Gampen Meadows, where you can stop for refreshments.

Difference in altitude when ascending and descending: 300 meters. Total length: 12 km. Marking No. 17-14A-4; return trip: No. 8-17.

Total walking time (there and back again): approx. 4-5 hours

Route: From the aerial lift area, Trail No. 17 leads to the southeast to the chapel and eastwards to the Plose Street. From the Plose Street, the trail turns to the right onto the commercial trail (Wirtschaftsweg), proceeding evenly via the meadow landscape to the east. At the fork in the trail, you should choose the left-hand, ascending trail (No. 17A), which passes by the old Ross Alm to the new Ross Alm located above it at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea-level. There is a refreshment stop there. The trail now continues to the east and northeast, across one aerial lift, and finally connecting to Trail No. 4 at the water course in the Schnatzgraben. Trail No. 4 crosses the steep western slope of the Gabler towards the south, where there are steep ditches and rocky patches which have been provided with steel safety cables (if the safety equipment is damaged – e.g. after a storm – we recommend that you instead proceed along the Hand Höher). Trail No. 4 then proceeds downwards slightly through the meadows and to the Alm Trail, to the right of which the Schatzerhütter is located (altitude: 1,984 meters above sea-level). A little farther to the left, there is the Enzian Hut (1,967 meters above sea-level). The view here of the Dolomites is quite unique. To the east, the mighty Peitlerkofel can be seen. Nearby, there is the craggy Geisler Ridge. The majestic Villnösser Geisler can be seen, and in the background stand the walls of the Langkofel and "Rose Garden" Group. Trail No. 8 will take you home along the meadow commercial trail to the ski hut (1,900 meters above sea-level). On Trail No. 17, you have to make a short ascent to reach the Höhenweg, and after the Kreuztal you will return to the aerial lift station.
