Hikes
Hike of Three Summits
The hike of three summits allows you to cross over the ridge of the entire Plose Massive. It leads to the Telegraph, with a 200-meter drop and view of Brixen/Bressanone and the central Eisack Valley, and then to the east towards the Lüsner Valley and the projecting Pfannspitz and on to the Gabler, which is the highest summit of this group. This ridge crossing is a longer but easier day tour, offering (when visibility permits) a clear view of a magnificent panorama.
Difference in altitude when ascending and descending: 800 meters. Total length: 13 km. Marking No. 7; return trip: via the commercial trail (Wirtschaftsweg).
Total walking time (there and back again): approx. 5-6 hours
Route: From the aerial lift area, Trail No. 7 proceeds along the fence, ascending to the north and the southeastern slope of the Schönjochl on the ski slopes to the saddle of the same name. You continue over the broad ridge along the fences of the slope, ascending until you reach the Plose Hut (altitude: 2,445 meters above sea-level). A drivable trail will now lead you along the ridge northwestwards to the summit of the "Telegraph" (altitude: 2,486 meters above sea-level), on the western edge of which there is a stunning view into the Eisack Valley. After this diversion, you can return to the hut and follow the descending ridge from the mountain station of the aerial lift eastwards. After reaching the saddle (see signs), Trail No. 7 will take you to the northeast over the ridge (ascending). You will pass by the western side of the mountain stations of the aerial lifts and over the flat ridge of the mountain northwestwards to the Pfannspitz (altitude: 2,545 meters above sea-level). Follow the signs along the ridge, which branches for a short distance. You will pass by the right side of the small Gabler. After that, the trail becomes steeper, and you must pass in part over rocky steps to reach a shelter at the large Gabler (altitude: 2,576 meters). Besides the impressive short-range view of the Dolomites, when visibility is sufficient, you can see from Adamello in the southwest over the main ridge of the Alps to the Grossglockner in the northwest. The descent is made without a trail via the meadow slopes to the south until you reach a meadow path. Follow this path westwards. You will pass close by the Ross Alm and continue to Kreuztal (your starting point).
